What people ask before booking.
Collected from real enquiries across the county. If yours is not here, the quote form has a notes box and we do read it.
Removals questions, answered
Do you really cover the whole county?
Yes — west Kent to Thanet, the Thames corridor to the Weald, the Medway towns to the coast. Kent is large and varied enough that a firm covering only one corner of it will treat the rest as a detour, and it shows in the quote. We work all of it.
Our house is down a Wealden lane. Will a lorry get there?
Sometimes, and it is the first thing we ask about rather than the last. Plenty of Kent property sits at the end of a single-track lane with high banks, an overhanging oak and no turning circle, and a full-size removal lorry that fits on the map does not necessarily fit on the approach. Where it will not, we shuttle with a smaller vehicle. That costs time, which we price honestly rather than discover on the morning.
How is the quote worked out?
Volume, distance and access. How much is going, how far it is travelling, and what the load-in and load-out involve — lanes, stairs, parking, steps down to a coastal property. For anything past a small flat we survey first, usually by video. The figure goes to you in writing before you commit.
Do you move people out of Kent as well as around it?
A large part of what we do. Kent to London is routine and short. Kent to the Midlands, the North or the West Country is a genuinely different job — driving hours, loading order, sometimes loading one day and unloading the next. We plan those as long-distance runs from the start. See long-distance removals.
What about moving abroad?
Kent is the departure county for the Channel — Dover and the Eurotunnel are both here — which is a real advantage on a European move rather than a slogan. Our moving to Europe page explains how it works and who in the network handles the individual country routes.
Do you cover my particular town, or should I use a local firm?
Both are often reasonable and we will say which we think is better. There are specialist firms in this network covering Maidstone, Canterbury, the Medway towns, Dover, Folkestone, Tunbridge Wells, Dartford, Sevenoaks and more, and for a short move entirely inside one of those towns they may serve you better. Where we are strongest is a move that crosses the county, leaves it, or involves property the local firm sees less often.
Do you move oast houses and period property?
Regularly — it is one of the things that makes Kent distinctive. Round rooms, tight winding stairs, low doorways and floors that mark. We protect more heavily in period property and plan the route for the large pieces before anything is lifted. Some furniture comes out through a window rather than risking a stairwell, and we would rather establish that at survey.
What about coastal properties?
Steps, gradients and summer parking. Margate, Broadstairs, Whitstable, Hythe and Folkestone all have addresses where the nearest vehicle access is a walk and the last stretch is on foot. In season the parking disappears entirely, so we start early.
Do you do office and business moves?
Yes — offices, studios, surgeries, workshops and small retail across the county, including the business parks along the M20 and M2. Commercial moves run on the building's access rules and on whether people can work the next morning.
Can you store things between dates?
Yes, containerised and inventoried in and out. Kent chains slip like anywhere and the gap between completion and keys is common enough that storage is part of the plan rather than an emergency. Ask early so space is held.
Do you pack?
Full, part, or just the fragile end of it. In period and coastal property we would generally recommend at least letting us do the glass, mirrors and pictures — those are what get damaged and what people most underestimate.
Do you handle pianos?
Uprights with the right kit and enough people. Grands, and anything coming down an external stair or out through a window, we assess first and will hand to a piano specialist if that is the honest answer.
Are our things insured?
Goods in transit and public liability cover are in place, with the limits and claims process set out in the booking contract. Declare anything of exceptional value at enquiry so it is listed properly rather than assumed under a general limit.
How far ahead should we book?
Earlier than most people do. Summer is the crush across the county, and it is worse on the coast where holiday traffic and parking pressure add to it. If your completion date is fixed, get in touch well ahead of it.
What will you not carry?
Fuel, gas bottles, aerosols, paint, solvents and anything flammable. We do not handle asbestos — that needs a licensed contractor, and it turns up in older Kent garages and outbuilding roofs. Cash, jewellery, deeds and passports should travel with you.
