Kent Removals
Flats & apartments

Flat removals across the county.

Kent flats fall into three groups — town-centre conversions, seafront apartments and purpose-built blocks — and only one of them is straightforward.

Flat moves rarely fail on volume. A one-bed is a one-bed. They fail on the route between the flat door and the vehicle, and on a permission somebody needed and did not get.

The three groups

Town-centre conversions

Victorian and Edwardian houses split into two or three flats, common through Maidstone, Chatham, Gravesend, Canterbury and Ashford. Narrow original stair, at least one awkward turn, a front door onto a busy pavement, and on-street parking that fills early.

Seafront and coastal apartments

Margate, Broadstairs, Whitstable, Deal, Hythe and Folkestone. Handsome, and awkward in a specific way: steps between the road and the door, sometimes no vehicle access at all, and summer parking pressure that makes an early start worth more than an extra pair of hands.

Purpose-built blocks

Newer developments along the M20 corridor and around Ebbsfleet and Ashford. Lifts, loading bays, and a management company with a process. Easier physically, slower administratively.

What we need before quoting

The floor at each end. Whether there is a lift and roughly its internal size. Whether the staircase turns. Where the vehicle can legally stand, and how far the carry is from there to the door. With those five a flat move is predictable; without them it is a guess.

Communal areas

Boarded and padded before anything is carried. In converted houses and managed blocks alike, communal damage is where deposit disputes and freeholder letters start, and the cost lands on you rather than on us.

A whole house instead? House removals. A single room or a part load? Man and van.

Flat move questions

Are seafront flats harder?

Usually, and for reasons that have nothing to do with the flat. Steps from the road, no vehicle access to the door, wind coming off the Channel that will take a mattress out of your hands, and parking that disappears entirely between June and September. We start early on the coast.

Does the building need notice?

In a managed block, generally — a booked lift, a loading bay, sometimes proof of insurance for the managing agent. Ask them the moment you have a date; that permission is more often the bottleneck than our diary is.

What about conversions in Victorian houses?

The commonest flat in Kent town centres. One original staircase serving several households, narrow treads, a turn at each landing and bannisters that mark. We board and pad the whole shared route before anything moves — the other residents did not ask to be part of your move.

What if the lift is out of service?

We plan for it. Wherever there is a lift we still ask about the stair route as a fallback and crew for that possibility, so a dead lift is an inconvenience rather than a cancelled move.

Can you move part of a furnished flat?

Yes — part-furnished tenancies mean some things go and some stay. Agree what is moving at survey and we will inventory it rather than working it out on the morning with an agent waiting.

Moving a flat in Kent?

Both addresses, roughly what is going, and how firm your date is. That is enough for us to survey it and put a figure in writing.
