Kent Removals
House moves

House removals across Kent.

Four kinds of house in one county — commuter semis, Medway terraces, Wealden farmhouses and coastal villas — and each of them needs a different plan on the day.

Most Kent house moves are short in distance. Sevenoaks to Tonbridge, Maidstone to Bearsted, Chatham to Rainham. The work is almost entirely at the two ends, and in this county the ends vary more than almost anywhere else in England.

What the day includes

Protection down first at both properties — floors, door frames, bannisters. Furniture dismantled where it needs to be, fixings kept with the piece. Everything blanketed and wrapped before it goes near a doorway. Loaded in an order that makes the unload sensible. Then carried in, placed where you want it, and the beds rebuilt before we leave.

  • Full pack, part pack, or you pack and we take the furniture
  • Wardrobe cartons so hanging clothes travel on the hanger
  • Beds, wardrobes and tables dismantled and reassembled
  • Pictures, mirrors, glass and TVs boxed rather than blanket-wrapped
  • Boxes labelled by destination room
  • Storage when the chain slips and the dates stop lining up

The four Kent houses

Commuter-belt homes

Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and the villages around them. Substantial family houses, often with lofts and garages full of things nobody has looked at in years, and usually a driveway. Straightforward access, real volume.

Medway and town terraces

Chatham, Gillingham, Rochester, Gravesend, parts of Maidstone. Narrower, denser, on-street parking and a stair with a turn. Many have a rear entry, which is nearly always the better route out.

Wealden and rural property

Farmhouses, oast conversions and cottages down lanes. This is the part of the county where the approach decides the vehicle, and where a clearance often turns out to include three outbuildings nobody mentioned.

Coastal property

Whitstable, Margate, Broadstairs, Deal, Hythe, Folkestone. Victorian villas subdivided decades ago, steps up or down to the door, and parking that vanishes in summer.

How the quote is built

Volume, distance and access. Volume from the survey; distance from the real route; access from the lane, the stairs, the steps and where the vehicle can legally stand. You get the figure in writing before you commit, and if the volume on the day is genuinely different we say so before loading rather than after.

A flat instead? Flat removals. A single room? Man and van. Leaving the county? Long-distance removals.

House move questions

Do you survey before quoting a house?

Yes, and in Kent it matters more than in a uniform suburb. A video walk-round settles volume and the awkward pieces; for period and rural property we will often come in person, because the lane and the staircase decide the job as much as the furniture does.

Will a removal lorry reach a farmhouse down a lane?

Often, but not always, and we would far rather establish it beforehand. Wealden lanes have high banks, no passing places and overhanging trees, and a vehicle that fits on paper can be stopped by a branch. Where the big van cannot get near we shuttle with a smaller one. It adds time; it does not add drama.

What about oast houses?

A Kent speciality and genuinely different to move. Round rooms, winding stairs in the roundel, low doorways and floors that mark. We protect heavily, plan the route for the large pieces first, and occasionally take something out through a window rather than risk the stair.

Our completion is the same day. Is that normal?

It is the usual pattern — load in the morning, wait for keys, unload in the afternoon. Where the release runs late we will talk to you about the load staying secured on the vehicle overnight rather than leaving furniture standing on a drive.

Do you cover new-build estates?

Yes, and there is a lot of new building in Kent along the M20 and around Ashford, Maidstone and Ebbsfleet. Easier on access, harder on timing — handover slots slip and site traffic management can put a skip where the removal van needs to be. We ring ahead rather than assume the drive is clear.

Both addresses, roughly what is going, and how firm your date is. That is enough for us to survey it and put a figure in writing.
